President Jalal Talabani Foundation Congratulates the 51st Anniversary of the Founding of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan

On the occasion of the 51st anniversary of the founding of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), we extend our warmest congratulations and best wishes to the honorable families of the martyrs, the members and supporters of the PUK, the heroic Peshmerga, political prisoners, disabled veterans, youth, women, students, and all the people of Kurdistan. We send our salutations and deepest respect to the pure and exalted soul of the symbol of the nation and the homeland, our national leader, President Mam Jalal, and to all the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of the Kurdish people and Kurdistan.
The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan published its founding declaration on June 1, 1975, at a time when despair had cast its shadow over the people of Kurdistan following the collapse of the September Revolution in March 1975. The establishment of the PUK restored hope to the people of Kurdistan. From that moment, a genuine revolutionary movement emerged, in which President Mam Jalal played a leading role. Through the sacrifices of thousands of honorable martyrs and devoted supporters of the PUK, many of the legitimate aspirations of the Kurdish nation were realized.
Throughout five decades of struggle and endeavor, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan has played a crucial role in protecting the national and democratic rights of the people of Kurdistan, achieving political and democratic gains, promoting freedom, democracy, equality, and human rights, confronting dictatorship, and fostering political pluralism and diverse political perspectives. Today, the people of Kurdistan benefit from a constitutional region with its own legal institutions, government, parliament, and a federal system within Iraq.
On this blessed anniversary, we remember with respect and pride the martyrs and freedom fighters who dedicated their lives to the cause of liberty, especially President Jalal Talabani, who through his vision, efforts, and lifelong struggle laid the foundations of this national party. More than ever, our nation needs the principles of tolerance, wisdom, foresight, and mutual acceptance that President Mam Jalal championed. On this important occasion, we also emphasize the importance of solidarity, unity, and cooperation among political parties in safeguarding our achievements and strengthening our democratic experience.
