On Sunday, August 23, 2026, under the supervision of Ambassador Dr. Mohammad Sabir, Chairman of the President Jalal Talabani Foundation in Sulaymaniyah, and in a new step toward strengthening the role of civil society and confronting the complexities of the digital world, the President Jalal Talabani Foundation, in coordination with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), organized a workshop attended by a group of journalists to support the establishment of the "Civil Social Media Coalition" in Iraq.
This step aims to foster a more conscious and responsible digital space by working to consolidate a culture of dialogue, coexistence, and social peace in Iraq.
Another key objective of this workshop is to counter disinformation and address hate speech across social media platforms.
Participants emphasized that activating the role of civil society organizations at this stage will be a decisive factor in safeguarding social security and preventing public opinion from being misled via digital platforms.
It is worth noting that the workshop will continue for its second day on August 24, 2026, at the Titanic Hotel in Sulaymaniyah, where it will discuss several other topics in support of establishing the "Civil Social Media Coalition."
