The Archives Department of the President Jalal Talabani Foundation Expands Its Network to Archive the Life and Struggle of President Mam Jalal
From this perspective, the Foundation is carrying out a long-term project to collect archives and conduct interviews with all individuals who were companions and comrades of President Mam Jalal, as well as all those who worked alongside him.
The memoirs of Mr. Hama Saeed Malakarim Jaf regarding President Mam Jalal constitute an essential part of the oral archive of this history. Therefore, they are being recorded and scientifically preserved, alongside related documents and with full protection of ownership rights, within the archives of the President Jalal Talabani Foundation.
One of the primary objectives of the President Jalal Talabani Foundation is the preservation and collection of President Jalal Talabani's archive as a major national and patriotic legacy. To achieve this, the Foundation's Archives Department, by establishing a broad network across Kurdistan, Iraq, and international contacts, operates on three main pillars: Collection, Preservation, and Development.
Phase One, Collection, aims to access all archival materials related to President Mam Jalal, including videos, photographs, letters, telegrams, documents, manuscripts, books, pamphlets, newspapers, magazines, academic theses, and content published across websites and media platforms. This field-based and scientific collection effort is conducted through various sources, including television, radio, newspapers, magazines, websites, cultural and academic institutions, government bodies, organizations, political party centers, personal archives, and libraries, both within and outside Kurdistan and Iraq.
Phase Two, Archival Processing and Preservation, involves inspecting, organizing, classifying, identifying, and metadata tagging all collected materials using the latest systems in the field of archiving.
Phase Three, Development, focuses on preparing all collected materials for scientific research by scholars and academic institutions studying the life, thought, politics, and struggle of President Jalal Talabani. The archives will also be utilized in media production, filmmaking, and book publishing. This archive represents a vital part of Kurdish national identity, and internationalizing it is another key objective of the Foundation. To fulfill this significant goal, which will serve as a strong foundation for establishing a national archive, ongoing coordination is maintained with international archival centers.
