At the Jawahiri House: President Jalal Talabani Foundation Recalls Mam Jalal’s Relationship with the Greatest Arab Poet
A delegation from the President Jalal Talabani Foundation – Baghdad Office visited the house of the great poet Muhammad Mahdi al-Jawahiri , Monday, September 14, meeting with Ms. Khawla Musa al-Khazraji, Director of Cultural and Tourist Affairs at the Baghdad Municipality.
Both sides discussed ways to cooperate in organizing cultural events and programs aimed at preserving national memory and highlighting the legacy of literary, intellectual, and national figures, particularly those who helped shape the Iraqi cultural landscape.
The visit recalled the distinctive relationship between the late President Jalal Talabani and the "Greatest Arab Poet," Muhammad Mahdi al-Jawahiri, a bond that transcended mutual admiration for poetry and literature to a profound appreciation for the role of culture and intellectuals in Iraq's history. Mam Jalal paid special attention to al-Jawahiri, ensuring his literary status and legacy were supported out of a firm belief that safeguarding cultural memory is an integral part of preserving Iraq's national memory.
Both sides emphasized the importance of reviving this relationship and presenting it to new generations through joint cultural events worthy of al-Jawahiri’s legacy and Mam Jalal’s stature, honoring their contributions to Iraq's culture and national life
