President Mam Jalal’s Political Role: Domestic and Foreign Relationships from 1975 to 1991 in a Koya University Doctoral Thesis

On Thursday, February 22, 2024, the doctoral thesis defense of student Kewan Jabar Abdullah on the life and political role of President Jalal Talabani was conducted at Koya University. The event was attended by the university president, Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Hasib, Harsho Tahiri representing the President Jalal Talabani Foundation, members of the Koya University Council, and university lecturers. The thesis focused on President Mam Jalal Talabani’s political role, domestic and foreign relationships from 1975 to1991.

The research conducted by the History Department of Koya University marked the first historical study at both the regional Kurdistan and national Iraq level, focusing on the political life of President Jalal Talabani and the Kurdistan liberation movement from 1975 to 1991 in an academic context.

Professor Dr. Hoshmand Ali Mahmud, the research supervisor, emphasized the significance of this study in two main aspects. Firstly, President Talabani's role as the founder of Koya University and his influential contributions to the Kurdistan liberation movement.
