Chinese Consul General Congratulates the Renaming of Sulaymaniyah Airport to Jalal Talabani International Airport

In a notable diplomatic gesture, the Consul General of the People's Republic of China, Mr. Liu Jun, sent an official congratulatory message to His Excellency Ambassador Muhammad Sabir Ismail, President of the President Jalal Talabani Foundation. This came on the occasion of the announcement by the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority regarding the approval of the name "Jalal Talabani International Airport" to replace Sulaymaniyah International Airport, with the decision set to take effect from March 19, 2026.

In his message, the Consul General affirmed that this step represents a well-deserved national tribute to the late President Jalal Talabani, praising his historic role as a pivotal figure in consolidating stability and promoting the approach of dialogue and diplomacy in the Republic of Iraq.

The Consul General considered that naming this vital landmark after the late President embodies loyalty to his legacy and carries profound symbolism, given that the airport represents the gateway of the Kurdistan Region to the world.
