On Mrs. Hero's Birthday

2025-06-12
Mrs. Hero—a politician, an intellectual, a Peshmerga fighter, a photographer of the mountains, and a guardian of the city’s spirit…
Mrs. Hero is a poised and moderate politician. She founded Khak TV and Khak Magazine, played a key role in launching Kurdsat, and has been a protector of the Amna Suraka Museum. She established Save the Children in Kurdistan and founded the Zamwa Museum, in addition to maintaining a vast personal archive dedicated to the mountains. Yet, these are but a few of her remarkable contributions.

Hero Ibrahim Ahmed has endured harsh struggles and played a crucial political role in safeguarding Kurdish domestic unity, particularly in strengthening the cohesion of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK). Her influence grew even more pronounced after President Mam Jalal’s illness, as she emerged as a strong and effective leader.

With her comrades and an iron will, Mrs. Hero has faced the toughest of circumstances, steering reality toward the shores of peace with wisdom. She follows the moderate and pragmatic path of President Mam Jalal—yet with even greater firmness. She has overcome weakness, united those around her, and never faltered, marching steadily toward the horizon.
Mrs. Hero is a quiet woman, soft-spoken and a keen listener. Yet, when she engages in discussions, her clarity and unifying spirit play a decisive role in shaping critical decisions.

Mrs. Hero—or Hero Khan—a name that is and will remain a symbol of respect. She is the wife and lifelong companion of President Mam Jalal. In the mountains, she stood with the Peshmerga, camera on her shoulder, documenting events and preserving them in the archives of the Kurdish cause. She is a politician who walks in her father’s footsteps.
Today, on June 12th, her birthday, the President Jalal Talabani Foundation honors her ongoing legacy of struggle, resilience, and balance—and pledges to continue the path she champions.
Happy Birthday, Hero Khan! May your light continue to shine brightly
