As a follow-up to the outcomes of the meeting between the delegation from the President Jalal Talabani Foundation and Her Excellency the Minister of Environment, Ms. Sarwa Abdulwahid, and in execution of her directives supporting the environmental projects championed by the Foundation, a specialized technical team from the Iraqi Ministry of Environment has commenced field survey work for the land designated for the "Martyrs' Park" project in Sulaymaniyah Governorate. This serves as a preliminary step toward completing the technical and environmental requirements necessary for the land to be declared a nature reserve, provided that it meets the approved standards and criteria.
This step comes within the framework of implementing the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the President Jalal Talabani Foundation and the Ministry of Environment. It embodies an institutional partnership aimed at protecting the environment, expanding green spaces, and creating a national and human space that commemorates the sacrifices of the martyrs, aligning with the Foundation's goals to solidify sustainability values and preserve natural heritage.
The assigned technical team from the Ministry of Environment included:
Dr. Adel Amran Salman, Head of the Biodiversity and Natural Ecosystems Department at the Ministry of Environment / Technical Directorate.
Senior Agricultural Engineer Mohammed Fadhil Abd, Head of the Biodiversity and Nature Reserves Division / Technical Directorate.
Agricultural Engineer Waleed Khaled Mohammed, Biodiversity and Nature Reserves Division / Technical Directorate.
The committee will conduct the field inspection and prepare a specialized technical report to evaluate the site in accordance with approved environmental regulations. The findings will determine whether the site satisfies the requirements necessary to proceed with the official procedures for its declaration as a nature reserve named “Martyrs’ Park.”
The President Jalal Talabani Foundation highly values the great support provided by Her Excellency the Minister of Environment, Ms. Sarwa Abdulwahid, and the professional efforts exerted by the Ministry’s staff in achieving this distinguished project. It represents an important national step combining environmental conservation, the promotion of sustainable development, and the honoring of the memory of martyrs in an environmental and human landmark worthy of their sacrifices.
The "Martyrs' Park" project is considered one of the strategic initiatives spearheaded by the President Jalal Talabani Foundation. It aims to establish a sustainable nature reserve that contributes to protecting biodiversity, boosting vegetation cover, and immortalizing the memory of martyrs in an environmental and human space for future generations.
